...Other cities
Now I want to share about the trip to get to Aek Kanopan from Medan. It takes around 5 to 6 hours driving which distance is around 200 km.
Through this distance, we will pass five kota/kabupaten which are Medan it self, then Kabupaten Serdang Bedagai or mostly called Sergai (in this kabupaten: Lubuk Pakam, Sei Rampah, Tebing Tinggi), Kabupaten Batubara (in this kabupaten: Limapuluh & Perdagangan), Kabupaten Asahan (in this kabupaten: Kisaran and Tanjung Balai) and finally Kabupaten Labuhan Batu Utara (Labura) which is a new kabupaten that was separated from Kabupaten Labuhan Batu.
Aek Kanopan is in Kabupaten Labura.
There is uniqueness of each of the place that we passed but I would like to talk about several of them only: Tebing Tinggi, Kisaran, Tanjung Balai.
Tebing Tinggi. It’s quite a big city compared to Kisaran and Tanjung Balai. My first impression on this town is that it’s quite nice and clean. I admit that we went to this town at night and that we didn’t go to all over the town, but just to see the downtown, I think it’s nice to live a life here. One of the purpose to come to this town is to eat at the Indian Restaurant that serves Roti Planta.. Mmmhh.. yummy.. *makes me hungry*
Kisaran. It’s not that small but we can’t say that it’s big. Maybe you can imagine the size of the city by this. At one spot beside the main road, there is one store –just like Alfamart or Indomaret- that is always crowded with customer. Meaning, they don’t have other bigger store as an option, meaning the investment made in this town is not that big yet, meaning the size of the transaction is not quite much yet, meaning the size of the population is not there yet. *just my thinking*
Tanjung Balai. In this town, there is a port that -according to the husband- is usually used to send TKI illegally, but don’t know the truth yet. Because of these activities, sometimes there are also crimes that someone kidnaps underage girls to be sent as illegal worker at Singapore or Malaysia. I ever heard news on the local radio that 16 years old girl was missing, then the husband spontaneously said that ‘She maybe has been sent to Singapore or Malaysia’. It’s so horrible.
Maybe you know about this. In many traditional markets in Indonesia, we can find flea market that sells the secondhand or rejected ‘usually branded’ stuff from Singapore, etc.
As what I heard from my aunty whose friend is the seller, the goods are illegally received at this port. The husband and I are planning to explore this town more, especially on the culinary things. If we did, I’ll post it here.
